AUD community members gathered for an exclusive screening of the much-anticipated play, "Jaja's African Hair Braiding," live-streamed directly from Broadway.

This event wasn't just a screening; it was a celebration of Black artistry and a deep dive into cultural narratives presented by the one and only @BlackTheaterNerd and proudly sponsored by AUD.

The play, set in a vibrant African hair braiding salon in Harlem, unfolds stories of identity, community, and heritage, resonating deeply with us as Black people in America. With its powerful portrayal of the African diaspora experience and the intricate art of hair braiding as a metaphor for connection and resilience, "Jaja's African Hair Braiding" captivated everyone in attendance.

Post-screening, the room buzzed with energy as we transitioned into an insightful talk-back session. This discussion explored themes of Black hair care and Broadway theatre accessibility. The conversation was enlightening and a testament to the power of art in sparking meaningful dialogue.

While sharing afterwork snacks, we engaged in discussions, sharing personal stories and reflections inspired by the play. This event fashioned AUD's commitment to celebrating Black culture and fostering spaces where we can collectively reflect, learn, and grow.

The "Jaja's African Hair Braiding" screening, presented by Black Theater Nerd and sponsored by AUD, was a manifestation of our mission in action – to bring Black narratives to the forefront and create a space for cultural and artistic enrichment.
